What to Pack for Cold Mountain Roads
Layering, documents, medicine, and small comfort items that make high-altitude travel easier.
Cold mountain routes reward simple, practical packing. Instead of one heavy jacket, carry layers that can be added or removed as the temperature changes through the day. A thermal base layer, fleece, windproof outer layer, woollen socks, cap, gloves, and comfortable shoes cover most conditions. Keep one small day bag with water, snacks, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, personal medicines, and identity documents. Power banks, offline maps, a refillable bottle, and a compact towel are small items that become very useful during long road days. If your route includes snow or high passes, avoid brand-new shoes and pack clothes that dry quickly. The goal is not to carry more; it is to carry things you will actually use. GoPackers coordinators can also share route-specific packing suggestions before departure.
